What Students Have to Say
Student Evaluations
Student evaluations are a crucial part of the academic process, providing valuable feedback to professors about their teaching methods, course design, and overall effectiveness in fostering student learning.
These evaluations offer students an opportunity to reflect on their classroom experiences, share their perspectives, and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching quality.
The goal is to ensure that instructors have the tools and insights needed to enhance their teaching practices, ultimately benefiting both current and future students.

Teaching and Conducting Choral Ensembles
-
There are countless of sources I can rely on from the materials given to us, not to mention the additional materials given over the semester. I'm planning of saving as much of the sources as possible via scans before I have to return all materials back and losing access to them.
-
Even with a few instances of discussing something irrelevant, these moments always served a purpose either to life or to running a choir. When discussing the relevant topic, we always went over what we would like to implement in our choirs one day, along with any questions we can think of. Whatever the question may be, Dr. Weary always has an answer thought-out ready
-
All the assignments were given out since day one, though once we understood the materials well enough, we could begin whenever we pleased. Even then, there was always enough time to plan out, create, and refine our assignments; the instructions given as well makes the assignments much clearer to plan things out and find sources of inspirations.
-
Honesty is one of the most important factors when it comes to comments and grades in my opinion, and Dr. Weary's always hit the mark. No matter if the comments felt helpful or brutal, it is obvious that he gives them with no ill intent.
-
The way how this course was run was extensive, but not so much that taking in all of the materials felt mind-boggling to the point where it's difficult to take the materials in to process. To say that my own world of choir has expanded tenfold would be an understatement, truthfully.

Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students
-
I was always very engaged in this course and it brought up a lot of topics that do not normally get spoken about in education courses. It was also nice to learn that the education system is trying to improve by using a more culturally responsive teaching methods.
-
I learned a lot about education, specifically with educating culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students. I learned how CLD students best learn, I witnessed this firsthand during observation hours, and I came up with my own personal teaching philosophy. I also learned how to lesson plan and got to practice with micro-teaching classes. Overall, I learned more than I thought that I would. I loved this class.
-
The class meetings were very informative and there were opportunities to do solo projects as well as collaborate with peers on teaching a lesson. Everyone in the classroom was very open and helpful on how the lesson progressed and pointers on how to improve. The teacher was very helpful and welcoming as he gave feedback on what could improve, but also praised what was great about the lessons already.
-
I loved the blend of time spent watching videos, lecturing, discussing topics in groups, having class discussions, teaching lessons, watching my peers teach their lessons, spending time at Vida Charter School, and more. The class was extremely engaging.

Social Foundations of Music Education
-
There is a lot to learn about teaching, and this course helped a lot in how to treat some of the lesser known aspects. The books and micro-teaching lessons both helped me learn a lot about not only teaching as a whole but how I teach.
-
I thought that this course was a great introduction to teaching music, and I feel much more confident in my teaching abilities now than I did before I started.
-
I felt that the materials we received were important and aided in the comprehension of the course work. All of the assigned reading was a good amount, and I never felt overwhelmed by the amount I had to complete.
-
Dr. Weary was an amazing example of a class facilitator during this course, promoting discussion amongst ourselves and providing the best learning opportunities firsthand.
-
Dr. Weary is an amazing and thorough teacher, and I really enjoyed going to his class. He allowed us to speak and converse with one another, sharing our ideas and discussing our assigned readings. I felt that presentations were clear and precise, and there was lots of opportunities for students to be involved in discussions, projects, etc.
-
Dr. Weary’s lessons are concise, understandable, yet low-pressure and relaxed at the same time. I enjoyed coming to class every time.
-
Dr. Weary is great at responding to work, giving instant feedback that is easily applicable.
-
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Dr. Weary. He was very helpful, answering any questions that me or my classmates had about the coursework. He was never too demanding and always made sure that our mental health was a priority, often checking in with how we were doing if the class came in and was overly quiet or tired-looking.
-
Dr. Weary gives FANTASTIC feedback. Great discussions on the chapters, but also after micro teachings, he would give positive feedback, critical feedback, and then things you should take note of, realize, and improve on. Very helpful. It is obvious that Dr. Weary has been around, seen things, done things, and knows what he is doing.
